Marathon des Sables
Runners in the Marathon des Sables, which Discovery supporter David DeFranza recorded as the world's hardest footrace, overcome roughly 150 miles of Moroccan desert while conveying their nourishment and supplies on their backs.
The race is broken into a few stages with time limits for every one. Coordinators have scattered required checkpoints with water along the best approach to guarantee runners stay hydrated.
Indeed, even with the security measures set up, runners still run the danger of getting lost. In 1994, Mauro Prosperi lost his way in a dust storm and meandered alone for around 125 miles. He made due by eating bats and drinking his own pee before rescuers discovered him nine days after the fact and more than 30 pounds lighter.
