Masterful Messi’s late double sinks Arsenal

Barcelona's Lionel Messi broke free from Arsenal's shackles to score two late objectives and put the Champions League holders on the very edge of the quarter-finals with a clinical 2-0 triumph at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The irrepressible Argentine, alongside strike accomplices Luis Suarez and Neymar, had been repressed for the vast majority of the last 16, first-leg tie however woke up late on, clinically completing off a lightning counter-assault and afterward dispatching a punishment.

"They are 95 for each penny through to the quarter-finals positively," Arsenal director Arsene Wenger, whose side had shielded emphatically for 71 minutes until disintegrating, told correspondents.

"It's a disgrace we didn't get any fulfillment since we place everything into it." Luis Enrique's Barca side extended their unbeaten raced to 33 matches and, excepting something phenomenal in the arrival at the Nou Camp one month from now, will assume their position in the last eight for the ninth season in succession.

"I loved all that we did this evening," the Spaniard told correspondents.

Messi has demonstrated a headache for Arsenal on each of the last two events the groups have met in the Champions League.

In 2010 he scored four times in the most recent 16 second leg to send Barca through and after a year he struck twice in a 3-1 win in Spain after Arsenal had edged the primary leg.
