Maria Sharapova still faces a hearing in the wake of testing positive for meldonium, notwithstanding the World Anti-Doping Agency issuing crisp tenets for competitors who tried positive for the banned substance before March 1, the International Tennis Federation has said.
Five-times terrific hammer tennis champion Sharapova tried positive for the medication at the current year's Australian Open after it was added to WADA's rundown of banned substances in January.
WADA said in a notification on Wednesday that competitors who tried positive for meldonium before March 1 could have bans upset as the organization was not able set up how rapidly the medication cleared the human body.
"In light of the late notice from WADA in regards to the procedure for managing cases including meldonium, the ITF can affirm that the Tennis Anti-Doping Program case including Maria Sharapova will continue to a hearing as per WADA's proposals," the ITF said in an announcement on Wednesday.
"The ITF does not expect to put forth any further expression until consummation of this procedure because of the classification of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program."
