Giacomo Nizzolo's first Giro d'Italia stage win has been detracted from the Trek-Segafredo rider after he was excluded.
Nizzolo frolicked home with a splendid sprint complete before enormous Turin jams in the end phase of the Giro, which was won for the second time by the 2013 champion Vincenzo Nibali (Astana).
However, Nizzolo was then excluded for an unlawful sprint after he was considered to have closed off Lampre-Merida's Sacha Modolo, much to the rage of Trek-Segafredo.
"We have gotten the news that Giacomo Nizzolo has been consigned for an illicit sprint," Trek-Segafredo composed on Twitter.
"He didn't hinder anybody from winning. Yet, principles are standards. In our souls we know who was the speediest in stage 21 at the 2016 Giro."
