Ruthless Selby grinds down Ding to win world title

SHEFFIELD, England: England's Mark Selby held his nerve in a savage showcase to beat China's Ding Junhui 18-14 on Monday and win the world snooker title for the second time.

World number one Selby, champion in 2014, never trailed in the match as he finished Ding's trusts of turning into the main Asian player to win the greatest prize in the game.

"It is awesome," Selby said.

"It was extremely unique to win it two years back, however I felt under significantly more weight now than I did two years prior.

"It was an intense last and with the measure of weight Ding is under, from China alone yet to play that way. I can't envision how he could do that."

Ding, who lost the initial six casings, battled back on Sunday to leave Selby 10-7 ahead overnight at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England.

The Chinese player began well on Monday and decreased the shortage to 11-10 yet Selby encouraged and went into the last session 14-11 ahead.

Selby, 32, extended his preference to 16-11 yet Ding, the principal Asian player to achieve the last, was not completed the process of, conjuring up breaks of 70, 73 and 103 to battle back to 16-14.The 31st edge was significant, Selby creating eminently taught snooker to win it following a 51-minute strategic fight and he overwhelmed the by seal the title.

"In the first to 18, a 6-0 lead is not a gigantic one, particularly against somebody like Ding," said Leicester-conceived Selby who secured the title minutes after the place where he grew up soccer club won the Premier League crown.

"He played incredibly before today and I needed to simply hold tight to him. I'm directly over the moon."
