South Africa confirm gamble on Morkel

DUNEDIN, New Zealand: South Africa will bet on the wellness of speedster Morne Morkel when the primary Test against New Zealand starts in Dunedin on Wednesday (today).

With cool, tempestuous conditions expected and a green tone to the wicket, New Zealand would not affirm their feasible line-up on Tuesday, leaving open the choice of playing a moment turn bowler.

In any case, South African commander Faf du Plessis felt that one spinner and Morkel opening in as the third seamer behind Vern Philander and Kagiso Rabada would give his side the best adjust.

The 1.96 meter (6ft 5in) Morkel, with 242 Test wickets, has been out of universal activity since early a year ago with a back harm which he disturbed again amid a visit coordinate in Australia last November.

Du Plessis said the danger of putting the tall paceman once more vigorously against New Zealand was justified, despite all the trouble. "In the event that he's not going to have the capacity to play now then we'll never know whether we don't take that risk," du Plessis said Tuesday.

"Each time he's rocked the bowling alley in the nets it felt to me like he was knocking down some pins getting it done.

"So it's an open door we need to take as a group and see where Morne is with his back. Every one of the reports say it's 100 percent fine."
