Serena Williams withdraws from Hopman Cup

World number one Serena Williams endured an early season harm misfortune as she pulled back from her opening Hopman Cup tie with irritation in her knee. 

Williams, 34, was planned to play Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the ladies' singles on Monday morning in Perth, Australia, however she hauled out minutes before the begin.

"Lamentably because of irritation in my knee I have to rest and am sure to be out there against Aussie Gold tomorrow evening." 

Williams won her 6th Australian Open keep going January and was on focus for the pined for date-book year Grand Slam until she endured a stun misfortune to Roberta Vinci in the semi-finals at the US Open in September. 

She was supplanted on Monday by kindred American Vicky Duval, 20, who came back to tennis in August subsequent to defeating Hodgkin's lymphoma and has a profession high positioning of 87.
